I recently replaced the 4 front bushings, along with tie rod ends, left innner tie rod, tie rod boots, ball joints....
When I dissassembled the front end parts, I measured distances, and tried to maintain these clearances upon re-assembly.
Obviously the bushings and the reassembly affected the alignment somewhat. The brick steers "twitchy" at highway speeds. On gravel roads it is fine, but on hte pavement, at 55 mph +, it is like riding on top a narrow ridge, the car wants to be anywhere but going straight. So here I am weaving slightly as I go.
I cannot believe I have not been stopped for DUI check yet!!
I know I need to get an alignment. THe tires are getting old, so any excess wear caused by the current setup doesn't matter.
Also, most of my driving is local and on gravel, so the need for highway travel is not a major issue.
I am planning to replace the rear bushings in the next 3 weeks.
Question: If I get the front end alignment now, will replacing the rear bushings throw things out of alignment enough to have to repeat the alignment??
Should I just wait and be careful till the new rear bushing kit is installed??
Are there any driveway alignment checks and adjustments I can do to minimize this twitchy steering situation - even slightly. - is it toe-in/out, camber, caster, or what???
How do I check at home?
And what may be the corrective action??
Thanks in advance
