I'm going to try replacing (or at least examining) the thermostat before i jump to the head gasket repair. I just have a few questions about it. . .
1) do i have to drain the radiator? I thought that after the last time i shut off the car, the thermo might stay open long enough to drain the upper line back into the block. I'd like to be able to avoid draining it until i can get the system flushed.
2) what temp thermo should i use? i'm in denver right now, and it's freaking hot outside. i think the only fail-safe one i saw was around a 192.
3)can i take the car to any half-wit mechanic to have the coolant flushed?
