Hood hot enough to smoke a bit when raining. Is this normal? 200 1991

I noticed it while stopped at a light during a light rain. It almost looks like a light mist emanating from the top of mid hood. Temp gauge reads fine so I assume these cars just happen to heat up the hood more than others but just wanted to be safe.
