We are considering buying an 89 744 gle w/ auto tranny and 16 valve engine today for $1500. The only thing is the guy doesn't want to let us take it to a mechanic- the mechanic must come to his house. Well, I'm generally knowledgeable because I work on my 86 745 gle. One of the things I'll do is test compression. I can either turn the crank with a socket wrench, or I was thinking of removing the wire from the coil to distributor and cranking it over from inside the car. Is that the best procedure? (I have only tested compression once before on a car that wasn't running and had all spark plugs removed).
Is there anything that I should pay particular attention to since this is a 16 valve car that I wouldn't normally check when buying a regular 8 valve? I don't think it will have the ZF-22 tranny b/c the FAQ, but I'll check.
Thanks,
Nathan
