F Head shaving...squish, quench, etc.? 120-130

First, many thanks to the info sent my way. It may have saved me from screwing up this project.

Been gathering info to tell the machine shop when I take the head in to get it reworked.

Sounds like I have an F head after all, not a Penta. Put the calipers on it and it came up 3.42" I had originally planned to get the compression ratio to finish around 10.5:1 in a B20 +.030. What I had not considered was that it seems the critical parts of the chambers are in the area which I would be shaving. So I may have been possibly dramatically changing the way the charge behaves in the chamber.

I'm trying to get the motor as efficient as possible to reduce emissions as well as giving reliable power so how well the charge burns is something I am paying attention to.

The questions are:

Has anyone else shaved an F head? (gotta think "yes")

How much and did you calculate compression?

Did you rework the chamber shape to compensate for the shaving?

If anyone can recommend some reading, that would be great too. Sounds like I have some studying to do before I take the head in.

All info appreciated, really want to avoid doing more harm than good. Especially since I get to pay for any mistakes I instruct someone to make!

Thanks all,

-Mario E.
