Last week (4-23-03) my ignition system failed while in traffic. I found 2 loose plugs, and a crank sensor (yellow band) w/ broken insulation at both ends. I replaced the crank sensor (white band), cleaned and tightened all plugs and wires, tested the fuel pump relay (manually closed the switch w/ ignition on; I can hear a whirring sound, assume this relay is good?). I took out the ignition coil but am confused about the re-hook up. Does the blue wire really go to the positive terminal? My voltage test bulb lights up when I connect the blue wire to the positive post of the battery (I thought that indicates the blue wire as negative ground, hmmm?)I have new parts coming in for the radio noise suppressor relay and the ignition control unit. I hope the main ignition computer is not bad, anyway to bench test it? I broke one ignition wire, which I will replace. 3000 miles ago I installed new ignition wire set + coil wire, rotor, plugs, and dist. cap. I have a new wire set being delivered this week. I am wondering, would one bad wire prevent total firing on the 740? I am disappointed and frustrated that replacing the crank sensor did not resolve this problem. What I else can I do now? Finally I really like this car, but is it worth $2000 to repair and keep? I am the 3rd owner, 2 years to date. I welcome other stories and advice. Mahalo from Hawaii. So far I have been doing all repairs based on this very gracious and terrific website.
