Frequency Valve 200 1984

I have an 84 Turbo and I seem to be having a problem with the frequency valve.

The first thing I noticed was a small fuel leak in the large hose that connects to the mixture control unit and injectors. The hose is a two part deal, harder plastic material that snugs into the nozzle with a second rubber layer. The upper layer was cracked (probably dried by the leaking fuel) but the lower layer didn't show any damage and both ends are snug to the nozzle. The leak is originating at the end of the hose where it meets the nozzle which made me think it was caused by a backup of pressure rather than a hose problem.

So I listened for the Frequency valve and it was intermittently buzzing. I checked voltage at the wiring harness and it was steady at 12 (although I did have to keep the throttle up to keep the car from stalling so that might have influenced things). Does it sound like this is just a shot frequency valve or is it possible that the problem could be caused by bad mixture and a hidden fault in the hose?

I would just replace the part if it were cheap but the local places are all quoting me 125-150.

Any insight would help.

Jesse
