78 Bertone with rust in the usual places 200

Rust Never Sleeps

I am finishing up the mechanical work on bringing a 78 Bertone back to life. Now it is time to turn my attention to a couple of rust spots which are in the places Bertones are famous for.

At the windshield lower corners - It is starting to bubble up under the paint and little rusty streaks are running down over the paint. To repair this do I have to remove the windshield? is that difficult to do? how do I remove/replace the windshield? what is the likelyhood I'll crack it?

Second, there are bumps forming under the vinyl roof. I would like to do away with the vinyl altogether, has anyone done this? Is the underlying metal finished well enough to look good after painting? What would I have to do to make it look good?
The later Bertones were available without the vinyl and I prefer the look. If I have to keep a vinyl top is there any way to peel back and reattach the existing vinyl? What solvent will work on the adhesive? How can I assure that the rust doesn't reappear?

Thanks in advance
TR Conn
