power steering?

when I turn the wheel I get a groaning noise. but somtimes when I just hit a bump I hear the same sort of noise. I checked my ps fluid (atf f) and it's black. I'm going to flush it in a day or two. but is that even the problem? could it be the suspension. Is my ps going bad? thanks.
