smokey exhaust in traffic 900

i have a 940 turbo 1994 when i stop in traffic or at lights i get quite alot of black smoke from my exhaust. i have noticed that i have an oil residue at the air intake side of the turbo and think that the problem is related to this, although im not sure. the spark plugs are a good colour and there doesnt seem to be any other associated problems, where do i start.
