Brakes/ Brake Pads 200 1991

How do I know what brand brakes I have? I see a lot of discussion on the 700/900 FAQ, but what about 240's?

What about shims?

Has anyone had luck with pads from a generic parts place?

There is a lot written about pad brands, but nobody agrees.

I just want pads, I don't race or brake hard.
