cooling questions 200

Hi I have a 1985 245ti that doesn't like to keep a nice engine temperature. even when it's freezing cold outside the temp guage will go from horizontal to 3/4 way up on the smallest hill. It will also do this if I do stop and go driving in traffic. I have replaced the coolant and cleaned out the intercooler, radiator, and the A/C thing and it has not done anything. I have symptoms that might indicate a faulty head gasket but i'm not sure. I was wondering if this is normal of the intercooled cars because the air goes through the hot intercooler first or do I need to replace the radiator.

I was looking at the triple core heavy duty radiators and they don't look too expensive. Would replacing the normal on with this help control the problem?

the other question is how do you know if you have a watercooled turbo. I was looking at my lower radiator hose and it has a cut where a hose goes to the turbo. It also has the tho hoses for the oil. Is this stock or do I have a watercooled turbo? Thanks

Charles 1985 245ti 134K
