Bricksters,
It's a 1985 244GL. The AC compressor and clutch burnt up in October on the highway. I ordered a compressor from the guy on ebay (a9star9a for $149.00) that sells them with the oil. I yanked the old compresor and pulled the hoses. The o-rings looked like hell. Must be from the heat when the clutch siezed on the highway. The belt busted and I lost the power steering on a highway off-ramp.
I also bought a dryer with the pressure switch and I got an expansion valve from the Revolvstore.com in Tucson AZ. I also bought all new drive belts and I have mounted the new compressor already with the hoses detached.
I have a local garage I trust. The owner says he now has the best AC guy he has ever had in his shop. The owner said he could replace the o-rings, dryer, expansion valve, and hook up the hoses with the necessary R-134 parts, replace the drive belts and charge the it all with R-134 for under $250. He has been known to come in way under his estimate. He always gives me the high side, so there is never a suprise.
Have I got this right. I couldn't afford the traditional $1000 AC job on a $1200 car. If I have missed something or gone wrong please let me know.
Thanks in Advance.
