Ugh. Remind me again why I like old volvos. Please.
Yesterday I inspected my clutch cable -- the one I made out
of pieces of junk from a hardware store on the 4th of july
because I needed to drive to san francisco.
It was fraying in a couple places where I didn't clean up
the part of the loop I cut with a saw. Time to replace it
for reals... I figured "while I'm in there I may as well do
the brake booster as well.
Grr. I think the idiot intern who designed the pedal box
and clutch cable setup left and went to work at ford. It
was a nasty job.
Anyhow, the clutch feels lots better than it did before.
The brakes, on the other hand, are now really irritating.
There is a little squish at the start of the travel then
the brakes grab much faster than they did before. I did
not open up the brake system beyond bending the master
cylinder out of the way to facilitate the installation of
the new booster so I don't think I put air into the system.
The car idles smoother and sounds different but I really
don't like how grabby the new brakes feel. What did I do
wrong?
