Hey all. My 1986 240 is havin some troubles. It started with a squeak... I thought that maybe it was a loose belt. I then saw my water pump was leaking from the weep hole, so I decided I would replace the water pump and all the belts while I was down there.
So after I finish, the squeak is still there, and now my car is pinging.. ALOT. Even under light load.
Could the squeak be from my harmonic balancer? here's a short video clip (400kb) that has the sound it's making. http://home.attbi.com/~hardattack/belt.avi (Right click and "Save target as" on the link to view it)
Next, the pinging, which is my biggest concern. What could I have bumped/moved/done while I was replacing my water pump to cause this? I checked the vacuum hose going to the ignition control module and it is fine.. I don't have a timing light to check my timing, but I doubt that is it because I didn't move the distributor. What else should I check? Could this pinging damage my engine if it does it too much?
Thanks a millions
