I RECENTLY FOUND SETTING MY DISTRIBUTER IMPOSSIBLE DUE TO THE DISTANCE (ABOUT AN INCH )BETWEEN THE TIMING MARKS ON THE TIMING CASE AND THE CRANK PULLEY
I HAVE QUERIED THIS ON A NUMBER OF OCCASSIONS WITH MY LOCAL VOLVO SPECIALISTS
AND WEB SITES NO ONE SEEMS TO HAVE A PROBLEM
I THOUGHT EITHER IM GOING MAD OR MUST BE SOMETHING ODD ABOUT MY VOLVO
ITS NO TO THE LATTER ANYWAY AS IVE CHECKED ANOTHER 740 AND AND A 900 THEY ARE THE SAME
IF ANYONE CAN HELP
PLEASE PLEASE RESPOND
I FEEL FOR THE POSTER WHO HAVING FITTED A TIMING BELT ROTATED TO CHECK ALIGNMENT
AN IMPOSSIBLE TASK I DID THE SAME THING ON MY OLD 240 ALTHOUGH THE MANUAL WAS A GOOD ONE BY RECENT STANDARDS NO )NAMES, IT DID RECCOMEND THIS THIS PROCEDURE.
OK GUYS HEARD A GOOD ONE THE OTHER DAY -HOW TO FIT A TIMING BELT IN 5 MINUTES
FIRST CUT THE OLD BELT IN HALF LENTHWAYS (STANLEY KNIFE?) THEN REMOVE THE OUTER HALF, FIT THE NEW BELT ON THEN CUT THE REMAINING HALF OFF SLIDE ON THE NEW BELT!
WILL IT WORK? I HOPE NOT AS IVE DONE MORE STRUGGLING WITH TIMING BELTS OVER THE YEARS
