What tools can I get by with changing wheel bearings?? 200

My 89 wagon with ~225K miles needs new wheel bearings. I have the Bentley book which talks about using a press and a special Volvo bearing puller. What kind of work arounds are there for this job? I'm not driving the car until they are fixed and any real Volvo qualified shop is over 40 miles from me. My tool box isn't much beyond your regular basic Craftsman tool set.
