745 sunroof headliner, etc. 700

Howdy! I just finished putting a new headliner in and am stuck on the sunroof. I have tried to follow fellow BB suggestions and FAQ's but............. Anyway, I can't seem to get the sunroof out so that I can put the new material on. I released the two clips on the vent and tried to push/pull to off but it wouldn't budge. I can see one of the two clips that are holding it on, but can't reach it. This is one of the first things to do according to the Haynes manual, for taking the whole roof out. I took it by a local sunroof place today and they want $200-$250 to take it out, put material on it and replace using the old seal (around the edge). Another ? I have is do I need a new seal? The car has 150K and has leaked in the past, but doesn't seem to be now. He says I could purchase a new seal for ~$150, but he could also put the old one back in. He also stated that one shouldn't put any foam material on the sunroof as in the sliding roofs only can handle just the material. The foam causes the sunroof to not slide well. He says that he has done several Volvo's, and didn't seem too excited about doing another. Is this job that tricky, does this guy sound legit, should I find another piece of material that has no foam backing on it, do I really need a new seal? Thanks for your help! BTW, the car has a manual roof.
