so I just finished replacing the ignition switch on my 1985 745t with one I pulled off a late model 700 (I think it was a '93). The hole in the back of my switch where the key rod inserts was actually nicely worn and gooey which is probably a good sign that it needed to be replaced.
My question regards the default behavior of the switch. My old one had a nice fluidity between key states... it was easy to turn and fairly slick. The new one actually locks into the key positions and provides much more resistance (nothing ridiculous, just locks into the positions more than the old one). I'm assuming that this is the default behavior and that my old switch was just reeeeaaally worn. correct?
I actually freaked after I put it in and couldn't turn the key at all... the steering wheel lock had engaged and the force kept teh key from turning... hehe.
