Troubleshooting AW70 OD prob 200 1984

In recent months, the OD relay on my AW70 trans has been flaky. OD wouldn't kick in unless I slapped the dash/jiggled the relay. Last week, I put in a brand new relay, and everything worked perfectly.

For exactly two days.

Was driving along, in OD, when suddenly the OD kicked out. "OD OFF" light did NOT come on, so I figured it wasn't the relay. I recent weeks, on occasion, I've blown the 16A fuse for the OD circuit and this has happened --- fuse blows, OD slips out, but no warning light comes on. This time, however, the fuse was fine. I put a 12v test light on it, and there's power on both sides. Power to the relay. Power coming out of the relay.

OD will not engage. Driving on the freeway, I flip the OD switch on and off, and the OD OFF light comes on and off, but nothing happens with the OD itself. The other day, with my wife driving, I starting sticking the 12v test light on all the relay terminals, thinking I might have a bad ground and that once I established a good ground with the light, the OD would kick in. It never did.

Could I perhaps have a loose wire on the solidoid itself? In the Bentley manual illustration, those wires look nearly impossible to reach --- sort of between the solinoid and the underside of the car. Is there an easy way to check that connection?

Any other ideas?
