Simple Oil Change Comments 900 1993

I changed the oil for the second time on my recently acquired 93 940 wagon.
I appreciate the advice suggesting the change to Mobil 1 synthetic, but I am going to stick to Castrol 10w-30. I know 5000 miles is what the Volvo maintenance guidelines suggest and I intend to keep the changes to between 4000-5000 miles. I read the entire site re: oil filters:.http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/oil_filter_study/

I opted to try a Purolator PureOne filter #14670. They were on sale locally for
about $5.00 each.

These are pretty well made filters as pointed out in the aforementioned oil filter study, but they are about the same quality as the Volvo OEM and about .50 per filter more. Also, they are a bit longer which makes navigation in already tight quarters a bit more difficult then the Volvo counterpart. It is an acceptable substitute if one is in a pinch for the Volvo or Mann filter, but I'm sticking with the Volvo filters going forward.

I am of the opinion that most of the name brand oils out there are of very good quality(Penzoil,Castrol,Havoline,Valvoline,Kendall etc..). I like Castrol, always did and it comes in 1 gal. jugs that make it easy enough to keep what should be a simple task simple and makes for easy recycling as well.
