SO yesterday I go to my friends and we get started workin on his 264 cuz I need the tranny outta it. THe engine was seized so we couldn't rotate it to get off the tourqe converter.. so we tore the entire engine apart... man its a weird design. its not a solid block.. it has big sleeves that go around the pistons and water flows around the sleeves. But yeah we tore that block into a ton of pieces and got the tourqe converter off..
The tranny had been sittin along with the rest of the car for 10 years.. the fluid in the tranny was still red and looks in good shape (ie not contaminated with other crap such as coolant. So I am hoping that the tranny will still work. My friend said I should probably replace the front and rear seals on the tranny before shoving it in my ride. I figure its simple enough but the book just says due to the complexity of auto trans we will just tell you how to identify problems.. repairs should be done by a pro or some crap. is there an easy way to get the torqe converter on properly.. it goes on but i don't think it is in all the way because it is about even with the bellhousing which means it is sticking out too far. any tips hints or advice for the swap? I was gonna clean the old tranny up a bit and drop the pan and all that junk before I put it in so that way I will just have to fill it up with fluid and drive it for a hundred miles or so before I drop the pan again and change the fluid to make sure any old crap in there is out..
ohh yeah and i kept a couple pistons from the old engine to remind my engine not to f*** up because then it will be adding the other 6 pistons to those 2 I already got.. making a total of 8.. just like the 350 or 383 I'm gonna put in there sooner or later.
