My a/c doesn't work 700

I knew this before I bought the car, just wondering what my options are. I know that you cannot get R-12 anymore in Canada. It's illegal to refill it I believe. But isn't R-12 a lot more efficient/colder than R134? I know its harmful to the environment though. How much would a R134 conversion kit run? Can you still get R12 in the US?

Also, have any of you removed your a/c system? Or is it too much trouble?
