Hey,
The front brake rotors on my '88 740 with 10 1/4" discs and no ABS have about had it, so I need to replace them soon. I saw that the FAQ has a section on comparing and contrasting premium vs. economy brake rotors, but they never really reached a definite conclusion. What direction do you think I should go? The guy at my local NAPA store said I can get their brand of rotors for about 40 bucks, and of course I could just go to a junkyard and pay less than that. On the other hand, though, I wouldn't necessarily mind paying a little bit more for rotors that will do me better. What should I consider in making this decision? What specific recommendations do you guys have? I'm not looking for product endorsements, just your personal opinions. I saw that iPD has soże rotors that seem pretty cool, but are awfully pricey. Are they worth it? Please tell me what you think.
Also, while I'm at it, how big a job is it to change out the rotors on my car? I looked at the procedure a little bit in the Haynes book and on a couple of websites, including the FAQ of this one. It doesn't look too bad, but is there anything special that I need to do or look out for? Thanks for the help.
