Recently, my power steering pump has started to make a lot of noise; when I come to a stop or turn the wheel, you can hear it "groaning." On acceleration, the noise usually goes away, unless more fluid is needed. When I pop the hood and the car is making the groaning sound, I can see the p/s pump vibrating quite a bit. My mechanic told me about 3 mos. ago that I need a new rack and pinion; that my current one is leaking. Is this rack and pinion causing the groaning, or do I need a new pump as well?
AND, most importantly--is the power steering pump the same on non-diesels as it is on diesels??
Thank you in advance for any help.
