high pitch chirping noises coming from the back of the wagon 200 1988

while driving over even slighlt uneven pavement I'm getting a very high pitch/frequency chirping noise coming from somewhere in the back of my '88 240 wagon. I think it may be coming from the tailgate but I'm not sure. Do I just need to lie back there and listen closely while someone else drives? Any ideas? What are the usual suspects? Thanks!
