Here's the situation:
During a wreck in november I damaged the right front suspension and right rear suspension. So far I have replaced the right rear axle, panhard rod, right front control arm, ball joint, tie rod, tie rod end, swaybar endlink. The left side is fine, no damage from the accident. The car currently drives, but has a serious alignment issue, so I took it down to have them check it out today:
The camber on the right front is quite positive, visually noticable. They say the car is unalignable beacuse of bent parts, which they say could be the spindle\strut or control arm (I informed them i replaced it with a good used one, so they counted that out) or possibly a K-Frame issue, or front crossmember.
I believe that the part that makes the most sense is the strut housing, but my question is this: Say I goto a local shop to have the struts replaced.. with they only replace an insert, ot will the strut housing be replaced as well? Also, I need to find a good source to get a used strut housing for an 83' 242Ti. I could likely contact someone local for this one (Vancouver, WA\ Portland, OR area). Their estimate for the strut housing and spindle is $652.78 which is way too much for me, plus I can do my own work.
The car drives fairly straight down the road, but the top steering wheel points at 2:00 when im going straight, and the car feels stiff\wierd on the right front beacuse of the misalignment and damaged parts.
Any tips, hints, or info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Zack
