240DL Jumping speedo, dead dash lights 200

Sometimes, nothing works on the dash at all; no guages, no lights except high-beam indicator.

After a few minutes of driving, it'll switch to stage II. Speedometer pulses regularly between 1/4 to 1/2 my actual speed, the speed of the pulsing is related to my speed; faster speed, faster pulse, although generally around 2/sec. No guages, no lights except for a dimly-lit battery light. The battery light brightens when I apply brakes.

Often, it'll be in stage 2 when I start the car, and if I'm *really* lucky, everything will come online after a few minutes of driving.

(Electric speedometer, no cable)

Sometimes, it works fine; guages, speedo, lights, the works. (Law of the Bone: whenever it's warm and dry and thus appealing to work on the car :)
