Ok... this is my first time changing disc brakes, so bear with me here.
I started working on the rear brakes(ATE) and I took out the pins/spring, crimped off the rubber brake line, craked open the bleeder screw and then pushed the pistons back into the caliper with the old pads and channel locks... easy enough! So I thought.....
Well my new PBR pads won't go into the slot because the piston isn't pushed back far enough into the caliper. I read on here and in the bently book to use a screwdriver since I don't have a pad spreader tool. So my questions are:
1) Do I apply the screwdriver end and pry directly on the piston or use an old pad? The picture in the Bently manual doesn't show the pad being in there.
2)The rotor is flexing when I apply pressure with the screwdriver slid between the old pad and the rotor. Is this ok without causing damage to the rotor?
How much pressure is too much?
The caliper pistons are just outside the rubber seal and I know the warning about pressing them in too far causing seal damage. I thought they were in far enough, but the new pads hit against the piston so they need to go in a little more.
Any help or tips would be appreciated.
