M47 lubrication 200 86

After reading Brian's post about jacking his car right up on the port side before topping up the transmission lube, I suddenly realised why I got covered in oil when I checked the level in my transmission.

The previous owner, a volvo mechanic for some 20 years, must have performed just this operation.

I take all the good advice from you guys here on the Brickboard, and I use all the best parts and fluids, changed and set-up / filled to the Volvo specs (except tyre pressures).

So, my questions would be, is it true that the M47 is under lubricated? And should I fill my tranny back up like I found it? The car has done about 110k miles, I've noticed the odd quiet whine in 3rd when I'm not accelerating, but apart from that it's fine.

Thanks to you all for a year of great advice.
