Fuel Pumps-2 for 1 in 780 V8 Project 700 1989

Has anyone replaced their Volvo in tank pre-pump w/ a Ford 5.0 in tank pump and eliminated the second Volvo pump?

I've noticed that the Volvo in tank pre-pump is very similar to the Ford Mustang 5.0 in tank pump. If I can use the Ford pump and eliminate the expensive Volvo/Bosch main pump, then future upgrades requiring more fuel would require a simple pump upgrade for Ford 5.0 H.O. .

If anyone has been down this road, I would appreciate your input.
