How to remove knob on auto trans shifter 200 1989

Hi,

I am replacing the broken plastic indicator molding that shows which gear your in on a 1989 240DL with automatic transmission with a new one. I have removed the push down button and spring on top of the knob and also the OD button and with the electrical. Now I can't figure out how to remove the plastic knob without breaking it. Does anyone know how to remove it? Any Help will be greatly appreciated.
