'84 GL: tune-up recommendations?!? 200 1984

I just got my short-term/ winter car- a 1984 GL sedan 4d ($100) that now has 247,500 miles and runs OK, no surprise...

What kind of spark plugs shoud I install? And the gap setting?

Aside from new filters and cap/rotor/wires, what else can I do (on the cheap!) to get better mileage and or improve its performance??
