I was cruising through a parking lot that the locals like to leave vehicles
for sale in and noted a very familiar shape. It was an early eighties Volvo. I really don't see many in my area and especially for sale so I went over to check it out. It was a 242 which I almost never see around here.
Here's what little info I have.
1984 *242* DL with 4spd+O/D, maroon(not my favorite) with tan cloth. Quite
clean looking with 173K shown on the odo. The rear deck speakers had an
aluminum trim ring that said "Volvo Sound". The wheels had many radial
spokes. Don't know another way to describe the wheels but they were stock
Volvo equipment.
The sign in the window said this:
"Original owner. When have you seen a 2dr 240? When have you seen an 84 Volvo in this kind of shape? Painted five years ago with lifetime warranty. Professionally maintained. 148K miles. $3,500"
I'm not sure why the sign says 148K and the odo 173K. I'm not a great fan of repaints either but if this was the original color for the car I can imagine that it became a bit flat looking. I usually shy away from cars that I can find evidence of repair after a serious accident on. I didn't have my magnet along.
The price seems high considering that NADA online says something like $2,400 but the car is very nice looking inside and the body is straight. That said, it's more expensive than any same year 242 found through Autotrader. I haven't really looked at it with the owner yet and before I do I'd like some folks with ideas of these cars values to respond.
Also, what particulars do I need to keep in mind when inspecting this
year 242?
Thanks
