I was parts shopping at the local u-pull it some weeks ago, and saw this manual transmission on the rack at the yard. It looks like a standard, run of the mill M46 with J type OD. I went in to ask about pricing and the guy (read: hick) behind the counter said, "uh yeah, that's a special transmission, it's an M46B, that little beauty'll cost you $450 without clutch flywheel and pressure plate." Curious, I asked him what the difference was between the "M46B" and "M46." His response: "It's got different gearing, it's lighter, got a different overdrive and it has a short throw shifter."
Sitting right next to this transmission was an identical looking M46, with clutch, pressureplate and flywheel, and that one costs $275. Same mileage as the "M46B" but over $150 cheaper.
Is there any merit to what this guy is saying? I'm probably going to buy the $275 one, but I was wondering just out of curiosity if there's anything called a M46B?
Thanks
Ryan
