Hey fellow Bricksters,
This isn't a post about a question, but a post letting you know how my 760 Turbo sedan, 223k, the Millennium Falcon, is changing my life.
I posted a couple weeks ago about a slipping clutch I experienced through Kansas on my way out of Denver. Thanks to Isaac, PD, IO, The Saint, Rick, and my good buddy Al for their input on my problem. Basically I had my boost too high, and I have a FULLY loaded car, which caused my clutch to slip a bit probably due to weak clutch spring and/or thin clutch. Due to my lead foot, my next Brick may have to be an automatic---uuugh--.
So that last time that I posted I mentioned that me and my fiance had just embarked on a 6500 mile, 5 week trip of the East Coast. We live in Denver, so it took a bit to get here. Here, 1.5 weeks after we left on the 29th, is Ft. Pierce FL, about 2,400 miles since we left. So far me, Erika, and my Brick have seen 8 states, and one Gulf, one big lake (Okeechobee) and one ocean. I spent the day on the beach, and it was 80 degrees. The kicker is that we have our snowboards in the trunk because we plan on boarding once we hit Vermont!
I am probably the ONLY person in Florida right now with a full set of snow tires on his car. I have a set of relatively new set of Arctic Alpins on there and got to test them a bit in Denver on some snow before I left. All I know is that I'm not sure why I ever drove a Subaru before! The RWD was predictable and fun. I did get to try these snow tires on some sand, and I must say they did quite well, especially since I have al least 500 pounds of crap in the car.
The Volvo eats highway and spits it out! Even though I had to turn the boost down to normal levels, it's fun to drive. I'm getting about 24 mpg, and paid as little as 84 cents/gallon in GA. I've spent about $100 in gas so far. Being able to see America first hand is incredible. I can't explain how cool it is to witness the people and places change before your eyes. We're staying with friend and family and making tons of memories.
I just changed over to 5w30 Mobile 1 before the trip, and I can personally verify what all you other Bricksters have been saying. She now leaks like a sieve! I think I was going through about a quart every 1000 miles. Everywhere I stop for the night I'm leaving a nice ol' oil stain as a reminder of who stayed there. At $4.50 a quart, I'm not buying a half case of it for the rest of the trip. I'm now replacing it with 5w30 Castrol GTX. I have an extra new filter with me so I can do an oil change somewhere along the way.
Tomorrow it's off to Charlotte NC, then on Thursday to NYC. Goodbye warm weather, bring on the cold!! I miss the cold. After that it's Boston, the Burlington Vermont. That's where we'll break the snowboards and gear out of the trunk and have a blast on some VT slopes. After that, back down to Pittsburgh for X-mas with my folks. I'll be sure to keep you guys informed on how the Millenium does.
Basically I'm letting you know how much confidence I have in a 16 year old Brick with almost a quarter million miles. She rides like a dream, and is a great long distance hauler. My heater core is leaking a bit, and other than the oil usage everything is working perfectly.
That's it. Keep an eye out for a rough looking Silver 760 turbo sedan with Colorado plate if you live anywhere on the East coast. I could be headed your way!
