Tranmission Whine 700 1987

I have noticed lately on my '87 745T that the auto trans is making a whining sound comming from the trans tunnel area. The car sounds like a large dump truck accelerating. The noise is speed dependent and does not change if the car is in gear or not. From what I have read it sounds like it could be the center support bearing. Am i correct in this assumption?
