AW71 to M45(?) swap. 700 1991

Hey,

I was at my Volvo mechanic's the other day and I ended up talking with a guy who has a '90 740 GLE (16 valve) wagon with an M45(?) (electronic 5th). Anyway, we were talking about how great the cars were when he looked inside mine and said: "OH, you have an Auto! I said:"Yah, I know, a slush box....." You know what he said next: "Do you want to swap? My wife can't drive a standard." Slightly surprised and excited I said: "Yah, maybe" My Auto has 243K km on it and his std has about 120K km on it and a NEW clutch(!). My mechanic said it would cost $500-$600 CDN between the two of us to swap. I figured all said and done it would be around $400 CDN each. Also, I'm pretty sure my rear main seal has a slow leak. Would that be easy(cheap) to replace with the tranny out? Is the swap a good idea? I love standards! (the AW71 is a nice auto though!) Any advise, etc? Should I make my '91 740T wagon a standard!?! Would it be much faster? THANKS in advance!
