Heater won't shut off 200 1983

The heater on my '83 242 Volvo @ 275000Km wont completely shut down when the heat control lever is at the off setting. I suspect the valve may be defective but not sure. The valve has a copper tube which connects to the air ducts. if I replace the heater control valve assuming that this is the problem does the copper tube simply pull out of the air duct or is it fastened with a clip etc.? This is my winter car and a little heat is not ever a problem but I would like to fix it anyway.
