Engine Flush 900 94

I own a 94 - 940 Turbo, My weekend project like a lot of others is to flush the coolant system and replace the thermostat. I read the exellent postings in the FAQ but would like to ask the location of the heater valve which is talked about. Also, are all thermostats created equal? Any ones that need to be avoided? Thanks
