Re: Persistent Brake Squeel on Rear Brake 700 1986

Maybe an inidicator of a problem was the right rear rotor I initially replaced. When I bought the car it was warped so bad it was basically shiny on half the rotor and not on the other half. Pretty bad. The brakes would pulsate badly in the rear when the brakes were applied at very slow speeds like 10mph. I did use brake klean liberally on the new rotors and calipers before assembly. I do my own brake jobs all the time on my BMW's but don't think I've ever run into such a determined squeel. The FAQ mentioned some sort of anti-squeel pad (insert) available from NAPA. Anyone tried that? I'm going to try and groove the pas material in the center with a hacksaw blade asap. Sounds like a reasonable idea since some pads come with that done from the manufacturer. These organic pads don't seem to be so ready to squeel immediately like the semi-metallic I replaced. They seem to want to be warmed up before they start. Local technician suggested using black RTV to glue the backs of the pad to the caliper pistons. Says he does that on persistant squeel cases all the time.
