Just wanted to let anyone out there considering painting, that about 2 months ago I used "plasti-kote ENGINE ENAMLE," low-gloss black No. 215 on the roof rack of my 245. I bought it at Pep Boys for $4/can. The original finish had weathered and chalked considerably probably because of years of intense sunlight and heat. The paint did a great job and makes the roof rack look brand new. It is very durable as well.
Couple of tips:
1) Clean roof rack the night before with Comet (don't remove the original paint) and dry well
2) Use 3 light coats
3) Wait 1 day to reinstall
4) Purchase a couple of new mount bushings (several of mine were deformed)
I am tempted to use this on the black grid of the grill. Does anyone have any succes out there with painting plastic (eg., mirror housings, bumbers and the plastic molding between the rear bumper and the back wheel?
