Intermittent no start problem (long) 900 92

For about the past 1.5 yrs my '92 940 goes crazy and will not start. It cranks good, but will not start. Usually if I start checking electrical connections it will finally start. About two weeks I shut it off and it would not start. I pulled a plug to check for spark and it fired right up. Then, about 1.5 wks ago it finally decided it would not fire. I had it towed to my Volvo mechanic.

Well, he got into it, and it would not start. He pulled the wires to the engine speed sensor, plugged in a new one, and the engine fired. He then reconnected the old speed sensor, and it still fired.

What the heck is wrong with this thing?

It's only got 94k miles.

Thanks in advance.
