Can the IGN computer cause the car to run "funny"??? Longish post.....Wierd? 700 1988

Hey all,

New avenue of repairing my car (is that all i do??? No, i get out everynow and again!!!), Here's the deal.... I run ordinary unleaded (Australian), um, i think it's about 91 octane, or something like that, the car runs well, i.e. seems really quick, BUT, it's pretty "rough" and not smooth through the rev range, ESPECIALLY when it's hot, it noticably jerks at the midrange, goes quicker, and then slows up past midrange (sudden sorta "loss of power"), it almost feels something like 1 injector is only half working, or something like that.... However, when i run 98 octane fuel (Shell optimax) the car runs really really smooth, but, feels like an injector is only half working the WHOLE TIME.... My first thing i thought was it might be the knock sensor, but then, shouldn't it be the other way around? I am guessing it's a dry joint or something in my computer/s. Sometimes the car "misfires", when you hold the accellerator at a certain point (right between decelerating and accelerating), it almost feels like one cylinder misfires....happens, well, once every 20 or 30 mintues or so, usually....

I would have thought optimax would make the car run faster, and smoother, but for the life of me i can't work out why the regular petrol makes my car go like a bat out of hell, (yeah, and it's a non-turbo!), whereas with optimax it feels really restricted! Anyways, thanks for everything all, PD your humor is always welcome!

Rock on (or "brick" on)
