Rough Idle question 200 82ti

All,

Recently I was getting really terrible milage from my 242ti. I hadn't yet replaced the wiring harness but after a trip what I did do was shrink coat the wires that lead to the ecu from the fire wall, the insulation on these were severly deteriorated. Before I did this the idle was severly high (3k), so after fixing the wires I adjusted the idle down, the po had the screw adjusted a quarter inch so the idle was really misadjusted. I brought it down all the way then screwed it in a quarter turn, this brought the idle down to 950 (according to the dash). I adjusted the ms so that it clicks instantly. I replaced the air filter.

The idle was pretty decent I took it for a ride, at the end of the first block I pushed the clutch in for a stop and the engine stalled, I cranked it back up. It continued to do this. Once I come to a stop, I engage the clutch and brake, the tach dips to below 500 then come back up. Sometimes it stalls. I was still getting crappy milage so I went to my shade tree and we leaned the engine out a quarter turn and this improved milage but made the idle worse. So I can't understand how the idle seems fine the milage is better but the idle is so poor.

Now I have gone over the engine and replaced some vacuum hoses, even the one leading to the canister, I tightened the intake. I bought a kit for the injector seals so I can do those at some point but wouldn't a vacuum leak raise the idle?

Thanks for any resonses.
