i thought these run 4ever! 900 1995

I have a 960 that i purchased in 2000. I've had no problems with it until i gave it to my girlfriend and it overheated 2 weeks ago!

73000 miles, but:

-occasional shudder which drops the idle for about 2 secs...(with no a/c, lights or anything else on)

my repair guy told me that the head gasket was no good and replaced it ($1000)...now he says smoke coming from the car because oil is going into the intake(possibly another 1000)...(i'm clueless and don't want to be taken for a ride!!!)

somebody please help!!!
