electrical problems 700 1988

I own a 740 GLE S/W, 1988. Vehicle is disabled due to electrical short caused when engine frayed battery cable and shorted system. i was given an estimate of $4700 to repair it. does anyone know if this is a common occurence?? I was told since the engine supports were well worn, engine settled on top of area where cable is at and frayed it. i am not mechanically inclined, yet i think 4700.00 is too much.

has anyone had a similar experience??
