I've read the FAQs and came across this automatic transmission output shaft bushing that needs to be replaced. I've also read that there is a similar bush at the back somewhere at the joint of the drive shaft and the axle. Can anyone show me, perhaps in a simple diagram, where exactly are these bushes placed? If not, please describe exactly where there are and how I can identify them?
I would like very much to know the purpose of these bushes and if they are faulty what will be the symptoms or problems. I'm not good with cars but after reading the FAQs I suspect these parts may be faulty in my car. I do hear some clinging or knocking sound (perhaps due to free play) at the back when the automatic transmission change shift, but this does not happen all the time.
My mechanic gives me all kind of reason but did not solve the problem. Instead he told me it is safe to go on and wait until the problem becomes serious because then only he would know what causes it.
If these bushes are the trouble makers, and if replacing them is not too difficult or messy, I like to do it myself.
Thanks for all your help.
