A kid I know got a 245 from his friend.
While the friend was driving it, it died on the freeway, so my friend just stored it at our old house for him..
Well, this weekend they tried to get it moving. No sucess.. So the owner offered to sell me his 1984 245 GL for 100 dollars.. I turned him down, seeing as how I already own 3 240s..
But tonight I went over to collect some goodies from it (I am to pay him and then it will be sent to the boneyard)
So I got my dome light, tachometer, small clock, license plate lights and trailer hitch receiver. I also ganked the seatbelts and a tan center arm rest for use in my 1991 sedan...
It also has two Volvo OEM mufflers that are rust free, so i'll be snagging those as well.
It has some oxidized GL wheels.. I'd like to have them for winter tires, but I think the salvage yard would like it very well if the car didn't have tires.. Anyway, good for me.. my first good luck in a while..
but the bad news....
I jacked up the rear end of my 245 to inspect the bushing situation to find the control arm bushings pretty much nonexistent except for rusty, metal pieces poking thru.. And the other bushings are all shot as well.
And the shocks are the originals from 1986..
Heh.. the 2nd car will quickly turn into an 'investment'
BUT... tonight I had it idling while i was removing parts from the 245 for about 20 minutes.. And when I got in again, the temp guage was reading in the red.. Why would this happen? The coolant level is at max, and the thermostat seems to work when traveling down the road..
But now my main question.. Can I rebuild parts in the speedometer I have??
the previous owner told me that it got 'fried' once, when hooked up wrong.. but I dunno.. the speedometer works.. just not the odometer. being electronic, I figured he could be right.. But what's the skinny on these things??
Anyone have a working one for sale??
ALSO.. Anyone in here have a bushing removal tool for the trailing arms for sale??
Thanks,
Luke
