740/760 wagon 700 1990

I am considering purchasing a used Volvo 740 or 760 station wagon to replace my 1986 240 DL sedan with 204,000 miles on it. I assumed that the 6 in the "760" meant it was a six cylinder engine. Is this true? If not, what is the main difference between the 740 and 760 badges?

I also heard that one should stay away from the turbo versions of this wagon as someone told me they are in the shop alot. Any comments would be most appreciated.
